Where a thinner weight will give you a light, lacy finish, and a heavier yarn weight will create a thicker, bulkier finish. I prefer a medium to light weight cotton (Around DK), but you can experiment with other materials. The cotton produces a better drape, and the acrylic is a bit more structured. I recommend a double knit weight. You can either use 1 colour, or have a secondary accent colour for the star and the single crochet seam.
