This crochet pattern is a 8 page PDF on how to crochet this piece, including a written pattern, diagrams and progress pictures. 

This vest is a super cool statement piece, perfect for layering, or as a stand alone vest. This piece is for beginner-intermediate crocheters that are comfortable with filet crochet and surface crochet (or are happy to learn). This pattern is made-to-fit, so can be made in any size, with any yarn. This pattern will take you around 14-20 hours to do.

Materials

- 150-300g of DK/4ply yarn

- (Optional) 20-80g of an additional yarn colour (of a similar weight)

- 2.5-3.5mm hook (depending on your yarn thickness, I would go for a hook 0.5-1mm smaller than your yarn recommends)

- Scissors

- Needle

- A measuring tape

Recommended yarn 

I like to use a cotton or a cotton blend. I think a lightweight cotton works best for this pattern (4ply or dk). You can opt for either a solid or colour changing yarn, as the filet crochet design will be outlined in surface crochet, the viability of the design is not important. Below are some yarns than my pattern testers and I recommend.

If you use a colour changing yarn, your secondary yarn should be a solid colour, otherwise your graphic will become less defined. But if your main yarn is a solid colour, you can use any choice of yarn to outline the graphic.

Another option is to use the same solid colour yarn as both to create a monochrome vest.

Construction guide

We will start by crocheting 2 panels bottom up, then attaching them together either side of the collar, using a joining stitch, to create the neckline. Then we will crochet the side panels, joining the rows to the front and back panel as we go (meaning there is no sewing!). Then, we use surface crochet to outline the filet crochet design, before we then add some finishing borders.
